• Find out their ring size: Borrow a ring they currently wear on that finger and get it measured at a jeweller. Alternatively, trace it on paper. Resizing is always possible, but it's a nice detail to get right.
• Know their style: Observe the jewellery they actually wear. Classic gold? Minimalist silver? Vintage inspired? Don't project what you think looks beautiful. Match their taste.
• Set a realistic budget: There's no rule that says you must spend three months' salary. Spend what feels meaningful to you. A smaller ring given with intention will always beat an expensive one that feels impersonal.
• Consider a placeholder: If you're unsure, propose with a beautiful temporary ring or a ring box with a note inside, and choose the final ring together. Many couples prefer this.
